Providentially the month of St. Joseph coincides, for the most part, with the timeframe in which some serious decisions must be taken for the 2019-2020 school year. As most of you know already from Fr. McMahon’s excellent conference about Catholic education on Feb. 22nd, a serious re-structuring of the school is under consideration for the purpose of putting together a program that reflects as thoroughly as possible the teachings and values of perennial Catholic education. For this reason, I ask you to join us in praying a special litany in honor of St. Joseph for this intention, beginning Monday, March 11th and finishing on his feast day, March 19th. No doubt this patron of the Church and protector of the Holy Family will make his influence felt in our little community of families which is ready to sacrifice heroically, even as he did, for the benefit of these little souls in our care.
United in the Holy Family,
Fr. Frank Riccomini
As always, the Around the World Festival was a great learning opportunity and we appreciate all the work that the parents put into preparing the students with costumes, practicing, presentation, and cuisine.
March begins the Lent season where we are going to study and learn with new zeal.
AROUND THE WORLD FESTIVAL
This is the 9th year, we have celebrated with the Around the World Festival the day prior to Lent beginning. Along with celebrating, it gives the teachers and students a chance to explore the richness of different cultures and enjoy some of what they have to offer. The students are able to research and prepare to present different ways of learning including dance, research papers, poster presentations, and song. This year we had a visit from our representative from Alberta Education, attend. She sent the following response:
Thank you again for the invitation to the Around the World Festival. It was evident that everyone embraced this celebration with a wonderful combination of learning, dancing and delicious food. I appreciated the enormous amount of work that went into preparing this event and was delighted to witness all the connections to family. There is always something magical when we gather with small babies and grandparents!
Please extend to your teachers and students my congratulations for a very successful Around the World Festival.
Thank you again for your participation and creativity while working with your children!
LIFE OF FRED – SUPPLEMENTAL MATH
The grades 6 – 9 had a very hands-on experiment, conducted by Mrs. Hynes. They learned why a circle is always a rectangle. She demonstrated this with two pizzas, showing how when they are cut up, they can be rearranged into a rectangle. She could have used construction paper, but the students enjoyed eating the mathematical results.
